Lake Bonavista Aging-in-Place Home Renovation
Planning Ten Years Ahead Made All the Difference
Some renovations begin with a problem. This one began with a conversation nearly a decade earlier.
When Pinnacle Group first renovated this Lake Bonavista home, the homeowners knew they wanted to stay in the community they loved for as long as possible. Rather than waiting until accessibility became a necessity, we planned ahead—quietly reserving space for a future elevator while completing the first phase of their renovation.
Ten years later, that foresight became invaluable.
As the homeowners entered a new stage of life, moving simply wasn't something they wanted to consider. Their neighbours had become lifelong friends, their routines were established, and this was the place where they envisioned making many more memories.
Together, we explored every option. Should the primary suite be relocated to the main floor? Or could the existing home be adapted in a way that preserved everything they already loved?
The answer was a custom-designed three-stop exterior elevator that connects the basement, main floor and upper level while blending seamlessly with the home's architecture. The renovation also included a beautifully accessible upper-floor bathroom, relocated laundry, and wider circulation spaces that make everyday living easier without compromising the home's character.
But what makes this project truly special is that it wasn't only designed around accessibility.
The homeowners are passionate wine collectors, so the lower level was transformed into a stunning, fully refrigerated wine cellar complete with a tasting room and entertaining space. The elevator now serves another purpose as well—making it easy to transport treasured bottles from cellar to table whenever friends and family gather.
This renovation wasn't simply about preparing for the future.
It was about creating a home where life could continue exactly as they hoped—surrounded by the people, neighbourhood and experiences that matter most.
